A phased move towards cloud-based computing and G Suite for Business has reduced infrastructure costs and simplified information management for GR Electrical Services Limited.

The Challenge

GR Electrical Services Limited, a switchgear manufacturer based in Sherburn-in-Elmet, West Yorkshire, was experiencing productivity issues with Windows Server 2003 and Unix file servers; remote access for sales engineers was a particular challenge. Most staff used Microsoft Office and Lotus Approach was used extensively in the business for contact management, quotes, pipeline management, contracts and more.

The management team felt that more could be done to help staff collaborate and have access to key information, including email, calendars and documents. Discussions with Refractiv led to the decision that G Suite for Business was the solution.

The Solution

With the support of Refractiv, a leading UK G Suite Authorised Reseller, GR Electrical has been able to bring everything together into a coherent whole, using cloud-based services wherever possible and minimising IT infrastructure. Refractiv migrated email, calendar and contacts for all GR Electrical users and assisted with the integration of Lotus Approach.

For GR Electrical users, the advantages are there to see – G Suite is intuitive to use, emails can be accessed easily from any location and documents can be shared and simultaneously updated by different users. For the business, the advantages are no less compelling – infrastructure costs have been significantly reduced and the responsibility for system upgrades, security etc has been removed from the IT department.

Refractiv also migrated GR Electrical’s static HTML website to their powerful content management system, allowing new pages and articles to be created quickly and easily as Google Documents. As part of an ongoing partnership, Refractiv provides technical support, custom development and integration with complementary cloud applications.
