Shoe pioneers the Left Shoe Company has decided to head for the cloud – the Google cloud.

The leading made-to-measure shoe brand has decided Leeds-based Google expert Refractiv is the best fit to lead the march to cloud based computing. Refractiv will create an e-commerce website and integrated back-office application for all the company’s international operations and update its internal IT systems to take advantage of the benefits of Google Apps across the global business. The Left Shoe Company was established in Finland in 1998 and now has stores in Italy, Denmark, Germany, Dubai, the United States and Japan. It opened its first UK store in London in March this year.

The Left Shoe Company specialises in bespoke men’s footwear, using the latest 3-D scanning technology to ensure its customers receive handcrafted shoes with a perfect fit. The process takes just six weeks from selection to delivery, and offers a range of designs from classic and contemporary to casual shoes. The new website and Google Apps technology will enable the company to optimise staff time, improve management efficiency and ensure the company’s IT is made-to-measure, like its iconic brand.

Erkan Fere, CEO of the Left Shoe Company, said: “As pioneers in made-to-measure footwear we need to ensure our information technology keeps pace with our global business. We stand for innovation, excellence and choice, which is why Refractiv is a perfect fit for the company. The new e-commerce website and Google Apps will enable our backroom technology to be as cutting edge as the products in our global shop window.”

Winning business in the fashion industry is becoming a trend for Refractiv: the Left Shoe Company marks its third prestigious client win to date. Refractiv counts leading fashion manufacturer Abraham Moon amongst its long-standing clients and recently signed up design collection Marble.

Richard Atkinson, COO of Refractiv said: “The Left Shoe Company is at the cutting edge of fashion design and technology, so we’re delighted to support them in embracing the latest cloud computing technology. The transition to Google Apps will improve efficiency and productivity as well as ensuring the business stays ahead of the latest online trends, which is invaluable for any fashion retailer. For a modern global business ‘anytime, anywhere, any device’ access to business applications is essential and this solution delivers that vision.”
