PositiveID

PositiveID, a software development kit (SDK), enables the unique identification of a PC, laptop or other hardware device.

PositiveID creates a digital fingerprint by gathering a wide range of software and hardware attributes from a device. This unique identifier would normally be combined with user identification but can be deployed on unmanned devices such as transaction or backup servers. The digital fingerprint can either be integrated by the developer into a protocol or application, or used in conjunction with the PositiveID Authentication Server.

The PositiveID Authentication Server Software Development Kit (SDK) is designed to enable straightforward integration into a client server, web or other application and several sample applications are provided. The SDK provides secure transport between client and server as well as an encrypted device database. It is possible to configure the attributes that are important to you. For example so that some systems used for granting or refusing authentication, while others are monitored and reported on.

PositiveID complements other authentication techniques such as username and password, tokens, biometrics and digital certificates. Patents have been granted in the US and UK. The PositiveID Client SDK is available stand-alone and is priced per developer. The authentication server includes full client-side functionality and pricing is based on the number of registered users per server.

PositiveID is delivered as developer toolkits with fully documented APIs and sample applications. The software comprises a client component and a server authentication component. The components are designed for ease of use and flexible implementation. However, if required, we offer development and integration services based on an agreed specification.

Potential applications include:

  • Positive identification of unmanned devices such as servers or PCs
  • Security for sensitive extranet or B2B applications
  • Additional security for PKI environments
  • Machine to machine authentication
  • Strong authentication without user interaction
  • Provision of different security levels according to the device in use
  • Software protection and licensing
  • IT Asset management
  • Extended firewall functionality and security
